Hair has an overwhelming importance in many cultures. It is seen as a crown of beauty, shaped to create beautiful things, and even adorned with jewels to highlight its magnificence. In Western cultures, hair styles, cuts, and care pervades fashion, style, and even health magazines, all seeking to pump a new product or an adventurous celebrity hair cut. Yet, despite our endless search for the ultimate hair fitness or the perfect hairdo, men and women alike often find their hair in shambles, destroyed from gels, mousses, sprays, heat styling, and bad cuts from over zealous stylists. Before you read another Allure’s best article, borage yourself with new drugstore products, or quote the newest celebrity stylist hair tip, here are some myths and truths about hair and hair care.

As a trichologist and former cosmetic chemist, I have heard and, unfortunately, seen some of the hair and scalp horror stories. While I champion personal grooming and loving and discovering your hair, brilliant hair care should not come at a risk to your hair or scalp health. Here are some things that you should be know.

Truth # 1 Your Hair is Dead, But Your Scalp and the Hair Follicles that Push From the Scalp are ALIVE

Secretly, the most top reputed cosmetic companies will tell you that there is nothing you can do to remedy your hair woes because in reality the hair is dead. And, frankly, this is true if you are using about 98% of the products on the synthetic or non-prescriptive products on the market. Generally, all products are virtually the same, so much that they are created by the same companies and masked under different brands. For example, Estee Lauder is Aveda, Origins and Bumble & Bumble. Loreal is made by the same company as Matrix, Mizani, The Body Shop, Keratese, Garnier, Soft Sheen Carson, Redken, Lancome and Nexxus. This list goes on forever and generally all the products contain the same chemically derived ingredients in a different concentrations. The only difference is the packaging, the fragrance, the chemical dye of the product, or the list of extracts dashed inside. Because many consumers buy frequently off of packaging, they are often duped and run into buying the same products under different names over and over. This causes you to feel that there is nothing that you can do to help your hair, and the message is only hammered home when someone tells you that your hair is dead, your hair cannot repair itself, your hair cannot grow.

But, what you must remember is that scalp health and the providing of nutrients to the scalp is critical for healthy tresses. The hair at the scalp root is quite alive. Have you ever pulled a hair from your scalp? It hurts quite a bit because that is hair is hooked to the follicle and is receiving nourishment from the follicle, which is receiving its nourishing from what is applied to the scalp and what you give the body internally. However, if you feed you hair what it needs to thrive, as it sprouts, its health will show. So what can you do?

TIP# 1 Eat for your hair and overall body scalp.

I have discovered that patients who are often plagued repeatedly with dry scalp and scalp fungus have anti-inflammatory difficulties and dry skin overall. Introduce moisturizing and anti-inflammatory supplements into your diet, such as Evening Primrose Oil, Flax Seed Oil, Biotin, Olive Oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Pantothenic Acid, and Green Tea. I have truly seen tremendous results in patients’ hair and scalp shine, texture, health, and moisture within 4 weeks of changing their diet or adding oils rich in essential fatty acids to their daily supplement cocktail. To further increase the health of the hair and scalp, apply oil rich products that are water based to your scalp. Yes, oils have gotten a harsh wrap in hair care, but in many cultures, especially those with luxurious hair, oils are a necessary requirement. As an Indian myself, Amla, Brahmi, Coconut, Neem, and many other oils are in daily application to my hair to maintain its beauty. I personally love Beauty 4 Ashes’ Mango Scalp Nourish Hair Cream and their Ayurvedic Scalp Food Cream. These creams are lightweight and very soothing to the scalp, especially if you are not comfortable mixing oils yourself and have trouble styling your hair after the application of the oil. A few of my patients have also documented increased hair fullness after increasing their intake of fruits, oils, and nuts and applying Beauty 4 Ashes’ Ayurvedic Scalp Food Cream, which can be found in the UK at mybeauty4ashes.com. These products have had quite a success rate in the States at discoverb4a.com and also in Canada at myb4a.com

Truth # 2 Your Hair Can Grow if You Do Not Cut It

I love the versatility of long hair, and many others do as well. But, there is also beauty in a wonderful cut. Yet, many of my patients come to me expressing deep sadness about their hair thickness or length. I often hear them stating that they desire longer hair, but their hair cannot grow and when it does, their stylist cuts it because it has some form of splitting ends or breakage. It often strikes me as absurd. In India, I went years without hair cuts. It was simply braided or just worn. Further, individuals who have dredlocks may cut their hair very infrequently, and may even burn the ends of the hair to create uniformity and neatness, yet their hair still increases length. I desire more than anything to dispel this lie. You hair can grow without frequents trims to it. While it may grow uneven or even have some splitting, this is common because each hair that sprouts from the hair follicle is on its own timeline. Since some sprouted yesterday and some today, of course they will be different lengths and may split. But, since the hair grows from the root, not the end, your hair can grow, even if you do not cut the end.

Tip #2: If you want your hair to see more length, do not cut your hair, instead nourish it gently to prevent as much damage as possible.

If you want your hair to grow, and you plan on not trimming it, understand that it may not look celebrity like—perfectly even and shaped. But, it still can have volume, shine, and health. During this time, make sure you moisturize the ends, using something as simple as Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Beeswax, Lanolin Butter, or even natural hair cream. Natural works best for the hair. Because your hair is a part of you, and you work best on natural nutrients, such as vitamins, proteins, oils, nuts, and the like, it is best to give your hair what you would give your body. Make sure you gently comb your hair during this time as well. This will prevent breakage. And, as mentioned above, do not neglect your scalp.

Truth # 3: Chemicals can hurt the hair

Natural works best for the hair. Because your hair is a part of you, and you work best on natural nutrients, such as vitamins, proteins, oils, nuts, and the like, it is best to give your hair what you would give your body. Products that contain chemicals can create amazing momentary effects. But, they are only hair bandages that use silicones, polymers, plasticizers, straighteners, softening agents, and chlorides to alter the feel and look of your hair for a very temporary period. For this sweet moment of gratification, you often live with years of hair damage or have to endure chemicals that canb negatively impact your health. A constant scalp condition I encountered due to chemicals is purple and red bumps on the scalp from chemical hair dyes. I also often see thick patches of the scalp from the repeated use of shampoos containing SLS, Behetrimonium Chloride, and ALS. Despite the hoorah about chemicals not being bad, many of the chemicals used in hair care products are derived from petroleum or alcohol. Petroleum is toxic and alcohol is very drying and damaging.

Tip #3 Buy Natural, Change Your Hair

Salon quality and great products can be found with all natural products. Of course, be cognizant of semi natural products and those that use parentheses to indicate something is derived from a natural ingredient. 100% natural products are out there. And, if anyone tries to discourage you, and they will (I had a patient tell my that Paula someone wrote about how herbs, fruits, and oils are awful for your hair —how absurd the things we will believe), just ignore them. As a trichologist, I am personally privy to the reality that over 25% of pharmaceutical products are made of plant compounds. As doctors, we search from cures to the hair, skin, and body from rain forests and then apply for the patent, label it as a drug, and rename the plant so that our consumers are not privy to the plant origins. Trust me, your hair will behave better by using natural products. Aubrey Organics and Beauty 4 Ashes make excellent 100% natural products. If you have specific hair care needs, Beauty 4 Ashes has more variety in its product selection and makes products that are suitable for all hair types.

Any type of insurance is a form of risk management; it guarantees a small loss (a premium) to prevent a possibly large loss. Business insurance is protecting your business and insuring it against the risk of loss. There are many different types of business insurance available and so it is important to have the right one in place to make certain you are fully covered and to make sure you don’t have cover for items you do not need.
By law all businesses need certain types of insurance for example if the general public come to your business premises you’ll need Public Liability Insurance, and if you hire staff you need Employer’s Liability Insurance.

What are the different types of business insurance?

There are many different types of business insurance, here are a few and a description of each:

Retailers Insurance – this insurance policy covers everything that the majority of shops will need. The main items retailer’s insurance covers are Trade Contents in case of loss due to fire, flood, Money, Personal Assault, Glass and Sanitary Fittings, Employers Liability, Public Liability, Product Liability, and Business Interruption.

Tradesman’s Insurance – this business insurance is specifically designed for sole traders, limited companies and partnerships in manual occupations for example plumbers, builders, electricians, gardeners and hairdressers. Within this type of industry the insurance may include cover for Temporary Employees as this is quite common with builders for example as you employ staff for the job at hand and it is not always permanent, and cover for Equipment and Tools, and Contract Work.

Professionals Insurance – is for business owners who work as consultants, architects, bookkeepers or tutors. Every business insurance policy can be tailored to your needs and so it is essential to give as many details as you possibly can to your insurance company or broker so you can be sure you are fully covered for every aspect of your business.

Property Owners Insurance – this business insurance is the buildings insurance for residential and / or commercial premises and may include cover for Business Interruption, Employers Liability and Property Owners Liability for example.

Whatever your business you will need some kind of insurance to protect yourself in the event of accidents and incidents, contact an insurance company and they will be able to lead you in the right direction for the right insurance for your business.

It seems that some fashions, although immensely popular with celebrities, fashion magazines and the general public, are not the most practical for female drivers. The latest craze for long fringes is putting people on the road in danger. Eye-skimming fringes, copied from celebrity styles, mean some female drivers are in danger of a disaster, a survey revealed.

The survey revealed that 67% of women have a hairstyle which could, potentially, fall into their eyes while they are driving a vehicle. In this poll, which was conducted of 1,000 female drivers, half admitted they did not tie back their hair before embarking on a journey. 33% did not think it was necessary to control their hair before driving and 8% said they did not want to ruin their hair.

Of the women surveyed 1% admitted that their hairstyle had caused an accident, near-miss or a sudden, unexpected manoeuvre due to their vision being temporarily impaired. The survey was conducted by women’s car insurance company Sheila’s Wheels, and also discovered three out of five women take their hands from the wheel to rearrange their hair or move it out of their eyes.

Sheila’s Wheels’ spokesperson, Jacky Brown commented: “Not many women think of their hair as a potential driving distraction. But with the latest trends requiring styling round the face and eyes, it’s essential we are aware of safety.”

According to the survey, women in Northern Ireland were the most fashion conscious, 80% regularly change their hairstyle to keep up with the latest trends. North-east England’s women were least concerned about following fashion trends and south-west England’s women drivers have the most practical driving haircuts.

Brown pointed out: “There are so many hair accessories available that can secure hair in place without compromising style. It’s just about finding the right one for you and making sure it’s handy whenever you step behind the wheel.”

High profile hairdresser, Martyn Maxey commented on the study, he said: “For some celebrities, a change of hairstyle is headline news. Take Kate Moss and The Fringe for example – in recent weeks we’ve been inundated with requests for the long fringe and despite it falling over the eyes, it’s now a fashion statement and people want it.”

Maxey continued by giving tips for having beautiful hair and driving safely, he recommended keeping a hairband, headband or alice band in the car’s glove compartment at all times. He said that for the extremely style conscious there are many different styles of hair slides available to clip long fringes or styles that may interfere with driving, back.

Other suggestions he makes are to leave a chunky velcro roller in a long fringe while driving to keep it out of your eyes, when you arrive at your destination your fringe will be perfectly styled, for the ultimate glamour, a pair of designer sunglasses propped on top of your head will keep all stray hairs out of your face.

Fashionable hairstyles are obviously not only going to be practical for driving, however it is easy enough for women to keep a range of hair accessories in their car to minimise risks of accidents due to something as silly as hair in the eyes.

So, is it worth risking accidents to stay stylish in the car? It seems that it is not only the risk of hair falling into the eyes and obstructing vision that is a problem, but also women removing both their attention from the road and their hands from the wheel to rearrange their hair.

It seems women should be more concerned about their safety , that of any passengers and others on the road, than they should be about the immaculate state of their appearance, namely their hair.

For many of us going on holiday is a fun, adventurous and exciting time, however; there are some who aren’t that lucky.

Every year travel insurance companies receive numerous claims as a result of holiday disasters. Here are just a few of the more bizarre claims that insurers deal with:

1.	A couple on their holiday in Malaysia had returned to their hotel room only to find that some local monkeys had scattered their clothes around the resort and the local rainforest. Fortunately, the travel insurance company paid their claim.

2.	An unlucky pensioner was on a cruise holiday when a particularly strong gust of wind blew his toupee off into the sea. His insurer did pay out for the cost of his hairpiece though.

3.	One really unlucky holidaymaker dropped his wallet down a drain in Natanya. However; his claim wasn’t for a reimbursement, it was to pay for the hospital treatment for his scorpion sting which he got when he put his hand down the drain to get his wallet back.

4.	A family enjoying a camping holiday in a remote area in Wales were surprised to say the least that a parachutist from a local airbase had missed his target and landed on the family’s camping equipment, destroying it. The family did try to claim but as they were not covered for accidental damage the insurance company didn’t pay out.

5.	Another unlucky pensioner on a cruise holiday felt a bit unwell and whilst losing his lunch over the side of the ship he also lost his false teeth. As the dentures were covered under lost baggage, his claim was paid.

6.	A couple away for their wedding definitely had a day to remember as the bride’s dress caught fire after a piece of coal from the barbecue fell off. Tragedy was averted by the quick-thinking groom who picked up his new wife and threw her into the ocean. Fortunately, the couple had taken out wedding cover and they were able to claim for their ruined wedding outfits.

7.	Another claim that was unable to be paid was the case of a family on holiday in Spain. A father was the hero of the hour when he rushed his daughter to the local hairdressers after she had frazzled her hair on the oven. Unfortunately, the results of the impromptu hairstyle were less than satisfying. Their claim went unpaid due to them not being covered for accidental damage in their holiday insurance policy.

8.	A man who was enjoying a holiday in Greece managed to break his nose when he walked into a glass panel in a bus shelter. It turned out it was because he had been distracted by two attractive Greek girls in their bikinis. Fortunately, he was able to claim for his hospital bills.

9.	Parents were very shocked to find that their children had thought it a good idea to bury their £600 camcorder in the sand. Luckily for them, the insurance company had seen the humorous side and had accepted the claim.

10.	In France, a woman had her make-up bag stolen and later disclosed that she had transferred a strong haemorrhoid cream into an empty moisturiser bottle. Her claim for the stolen cosmetics was paid.

Rates charged will vary as to gender and smoking status. The classification may vary between companies and the number of classifications may vary from as few as five to twenty or more.Occupations are grouped into classification and under writing is restricted to proper occupation classification.
Occupational Classifications are rated on their morbidity exposure and based on the answers received below:
1. Is the occupation and income stable and permanent
2. Does the occupation require travel and what is the normal location of the individual’s work site?
3. What are the work duties?
4.Does the occupation require a regular work schedule?
5. What economic, social or environmental factors impact the worker?
6. Are there any health or hazards related to the individuals job tasks?

The classes will vary by company, but I can tell you how one of the companies I deal with does it. They use five classes, as follows:
1. Class 5A
a) Professionals work in the office.
b) White Collar Executives that is in a senior position with senior duties.

2. Class 4A
a) Professional work outside the office with no hazardous duties.
b) White collar executive that is less experience and duties than someone at a 5 A level.

3. Class 3A
a) those work in non-hazardous occupations such as manufacturing agents, certain clerical duties like an auctioneer or surveyor.
b) Occupational demands that take them out of the office on a regular basis.
c) Supervisors, superintendents, contractors and inspectors.

4. Class 2A
a) Light manual occupations, such as hairdresser and barber.
b) Skilled trades people with good occupational experience, including plumbers, and painters.

5. Class 1A
All other insurable occupation workers.
Some occupations are not insurable. Disability insurance are harder to get issued than life insurance policy and it requires more detail.
The waiting period for these type of policies usually are 14, 30, 60 or 90 days and the benefit amount is based on a percentage of pre-disability income and is determined by the companies.
I hope this information will help. Right now I am trying to compile a list of all the things I will need to start fresh and I'm researching the cost of all the items, this way I can start saving now and have enough money to buy all the stuff when the time comes. I also want to have a fresh start grocery list also so that I will have enough money for that too. I will be putting away all my money minus gas and car insurance starting now and I will have a full time job as a hairdresser when I move out. I will be most likely sharing the appartment with my bestfriend who also has a full time job and we will be sharing the expenses.

Tradesman insurance policy is essentially made for covering the financial losses arising at the workplace. Whether it is covering you against legal action, liability issues or personal injury, tradesman insurance policy provide the protection you require.

Tradesman insurance policy is for:

Plumbers, handymen, electricians

Consultants working form home

Beauticians and hairdressers

Accountants and home based journalist

Various kinds of home based businesses

In your tradesman insurance policy, you might find a certain limit of indemnity. The indemnity limit for the tradesman insurance is generally set at 1-5 million pounds. This can be also be extended by speaking to the tradesman insurance provider and depending upon the financial losses happened to you.

The content of the tradesman insurance policy (terms and conditions) can differ thereby it is essential to go through all the small print prior to purchasing the policy in order to get acquainted what your tradesman insurance policy covers and legal obligations. Essentially, you must have a legal protection for your employees, customers and the public. If the damage or an injury took place because of your negligence (or your employees) or you are found guilty of violating any statutory duty, you might be accountable to forfeit the damages. This can greatly cripple your economic situation if you do not possess a tradesman insurance policy.

Apart, the tradesman insurance policy includes two to three levels of tradesman insurance cover. These comprise of:

Employer’s liability insurance

Public liability insurance

Product liability insurance cover

The prime benefit of the tradesman insurance policy is that, this policy is priced upon the per capita income or upon the total number or people i.e. the employees and partners or directors. Nevertheless, a vast majority of the tradesman insurance policy are limited to a certain number of the working individuals, generally a maximum number of ten.

The Tradesman Insurance policy protect the self employed tradesman against damage, with the employers legal responsibility upto the value of £10,000,000, while public liability upto the value of £5,000,000 in order to cover the property damage during the course of the trade. In addition, the tradesman insurance policy also generally covers the tools and equipments and even the motor vehicle liability.

I had the rather interesting experience of buying a new telly yesterday.

The salesman was great, he let us do our browsing and then when we looked like we were ready to get serious and pick which TV we wanted, he just appeared quietly in the background so he could answer any questions we had. Fantastic… so far…

Then the salesman asked us:
… Do we need insurance? – A good question but no thank you.
… And did we have a stand to put it on? – Yes thanks, we’ll use the one we’ve got from our old telly.
… Do you have a DVD player to go with it? – No, that’s alright thanks, we just want the TV.
… Well, no TV is complete without a surround sound system? – Honestly, we’re quite happy with just the TV thanks.
… And were you requiring a games console? – No, just the TV please.

Believe it or not the conversation carried on for about 5 more questions (I had no idea how much stuff you could get to go with your telly!) until I politely said, “Thank you ever so much for your help however we just want the TV today. Are we able to pay for it now?”

The lesson in all of this is that an excellent sales process can turn sour very quickly by not listening to the client.

The first two questions were perfectly reasonable and in fact, quite helpful. If we didn’t already have home & contents insurance, we would almost certainly have purchased the TV insurance from him. And if we’d got home and realised we didn’t have a TV stand we would have had to go all the way back to the store to get one which would have been quite a pain.

So those first two questions were the mark of a great salesman who was paying attention and who clearly cared about us and our purchase. But the rest of it was him not listening and not paying attention to what we really wanted (which was just the TV).

Offering clients in your salon one or two additional items that you know they might need is really GREAT. In fact, its excellent service. But continuing to offer items that they don’t need is NOT.

Tip for this week is to take half an hour to look at what treatments or services you offer in your hair or beauty salon and think about what your clients might need or appreciate at home afterwards.

But when you come to offer them to them, LISTEN. Ask them questions to find out what they need. Listen to what they are saying and then only offer them solutions that are going to be genuinely beneficial.

Doing this will ultimately help you get more regular clients and improve sales in your hair or beauty salon. They’ll thank you for caring and will come back time and time again in the future.

Help answer the question about hairdressers insurance

Hairdresser made me seriously bald and refused to apologies–Can I Sue?
I went to a hairdresser in Harlem that was referred to me by a friend 4 weeks ago. I got a weave (it felt tight) but I thought it was notmal since I never had a weave before. I was very uncomfortable and took it out 3 weeks later. My scalp was scared and had puss coming out of it. I have no insurance and can not afford to go to emergency and don’t have a doctor. I am really stressed out because I am not bald in the center of my head (crown). I went to the hairdresser and she said that I should have taken the hair out and I was responsible. She did not apologise or offer to refund me the money. Can I sue. I have a scar and I am bald? I have to wear a wig all the time and I feel seriously humilated
